Multimedia tools lead to greater student satisfaction and student achievement.  They use Quality Matters model--interactivity--providing students the opportunity to interact with content in different ways.
Students interact with content by reading, interact with each other through discussion boards, and interact with faculty through e-mail.  Expect instructors to have a strong presence in their online course!

PROBLEM...need a ways to provide online feedback to students on multimedia projects
                 need to create tutorials for students about a variety of applications and online resources

Use
CamStudio--Open Source--screen capture FREE--some issues--not a smooth screen capture--keep them short with this tool due to tool limitations  Record to SWF or AVI--simple --Does not work with VISTA!!

PROBLEM..need to show students how to solve math and scientific equations on a whiteboard
Use
LectureSCribe--Freeware  Record your voice while you write on the whiteboard, you can copy and paste images, charts--simple to use record, play, change colors  YES< WORKS WITH VISTA!!  need to use a tablet or a Waycon(?) tablet and a Smartboard

PROBLEM-Need a screen capture utility to teach computer application course online
Use-
WINK-freeware--makes small Flash files, makes individual pictures so you can modify, you can narrate after you do the screen capture

Captivate-disadvantage-learning curve for product use is high--not a good tool for faculty due to learning the software and the time involved.

Camtasia Studio-has much of the functionality of Captivate without the cost-user friendly for faculty

PROBLEM:
-need to replace instructor PPT lectures with formate more appropriate for online delivery
-need tool that addresses multiple learning styles and is ADA compliant
-would like ability to include interactive elements and assessment

USE-Articulate
---faculty can do the work in PPT with voice capture in lecture or during PPT...can publish directly out of Articulate--ADA compliant--Grabs the notes out of PPT and puts on a tab for hearing impaired.--Print slide view into a PDF so students can print easily

Need to easily create opportunities for students to interact with content (non-graded, fun)

USE-StudyMate 2.0 by Respondus  --glossary, flashcards, fill in the blank, pick a letter, matching, crossword for lower level knowledge based info

need to create self assessment that exists outside the CMS (must provide feedback about specific responses)
USE: Hot Potatoes-free-crosswords, assessments, feedback etc....produces to an HTML file and can print out results--provides individual feedback on questions

PROBLEM:
need application to replicate the peer review process used in F2F english courses (allow for simultaneous editing, would like to include chat)
USE:  Google Docs--supports MS Office, collaborative way to work on documents synchronously--WORD, EXCEL or PPT   Google Docs is really a wiki

Need for low cost video conferencing solution for office hours, advising, presentation, group work
USE FM--Flash Meeting --Flash based meeting solution

PROBLEM:
need synchronous virtual meeting space for online courses and meeting, need meeting space with whiteboard, audio and chat for online math tutoring
Use-ElectaLive- 60 seats $8100 use for tutoring! issues with slow response

PROBLEM
need to find method for online students to practice interviewing skills, need more effective method than email for troubleshooting
Use THE TELEPHONE!!
